UCC5880-Q1: ADC use cases and effective number of bits

Part Number: UCC5880-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear Texas Instruments Support,

I am evaluating the UCC5880-Q1 for a 3-phase (60 Hz) voltage and current sampling in V2B application and would like more details regarding its ADC performance. Specifically, I have the following questions:

  1. Use Cases: Is the UCC5880-Q1 ADC suitable for accurately sampling 3-phase voltage and current at 60 Hz? Are there any recommended configurations or design considerations for this use case?
  2. Current Measurement with a Shunt Resistor: I plan to use a shunt resistor for current measurement. Are there any recommended ADC input configurations, filtering techniques, or gain settings to maximize accuracy and minimize noise?
  3. Effective Number of Bits (ENOB): What is the ENOB of the ADC under typical operating conditions? The datasheet provides resolution details, but I would like to understand its real-world performance, considering noise and other factors that may affect accuracy.
  4. Sampling Rate and Filtering: What is the effective sampling rate of the ADC, and does it include any internal filtering that may impact phase measurements or dynamic performance?

Additionally, if you have any application notes or best practices for using the ADC with a shunt resistor for current measurement, I would appreciate your guidance.

Thank you for your time and support.

Best regards,

Luigi Giubbolini, Ph.D.
