Hi,

In the procedure manual of the learning cycle, there is a possibility to reduce the relaxation time to 5 hours or less. After "VOK" and "RDIS" are cleared, I would like to shift to charging immediately to shorten the relaxation time.

1. In order to know that "VOK" and "RDIS (=RUP_ DIS)" are cleared, should I update Bit Registers of Bqstudio periodically to check?

2. Also, can you tell me how to check the report of clearing in the log data?

Hello Yuta,

It is recommend to allow the five hours (or more depending on the chemistry) of the relaxation period and trying to shorten the relaxation period give little benefit to the system.

1.) You can periodically check the bit register in order to know if VOK and RDIS is cleared

2.)All the data log got VOK and RDIS don't seem to have there own line rather you can use commands that are dependent on the values to determine the state of VOK and RDIS such as IT ENABLE: 0x0021, QmaxDod0(): 0x72/0x73, and etc.

1. The customer uses a 17Ah20HR lead battery.

If the battery is fully discharged and then there is a long relaxation time, the battery will deteriorate. Therefore, we would like to shorten the relaxation time. Is this possible?

Hello Yuta,

If you discharge the battery to terminal voltage than leave it five hours to rest than little to no deterioation should happen however going lower than terminal voltage would deteriorate it. I would still recommend staying with the recommend relaxation time.

Hi Alan-san,

I checked with the battery manufacturer, and the battery I am considering will deteriorate if left at the terminal voltage for 5 hours.

Therefore, is there any problem if I check the status of VOK, RDIS, and updatestatus and set the relaxation time to less than 5 hours? The purpose is to prevent battery deterioration.

Hello Yuta,

After talking to our battery tester on the team, the lead acid battery will not deteriorate if you go to the termination voltage. The relaxation period is important to be left at 5 hours due to voltage not stabilizing after after discharging and need some time to really level out to its equilibrium point.
