Hello,

My customer requested TI's review of the TPS546D24ARVF design.

Please review their design below to see if there are any problems.

Thank you.

  • Hi JH,

I have attached the Excel calculator, which includes the design calculator and a schematic/layout review checklist. I filled it out for you this time, so please use it to review the layout.

Here are my comments and cautions regarding the review:

    1. ADRSEL: The note on the schematic shows the PMBUS address = 0x50, but the selected pin strap resistors are for 0x15.
    2. Pin strap resistors should be terminated to AGND. AGND is the analog ground and is clean. Connecting it to PGND will create noise to be coupled on to the pins and should be strictly avoided.
    3. When configured as PGOOD, there should a pull-up resistor because it is an open-drain output, which is not present in the schematic.
    4. AGND and PGND should be only tied together and connected directly to the thermal pad. This is critical to minimize noise.
    5. I am not aware of the customer’s transient requirements, but based on the selected output inductors, output capacitors, and the compensation configuration for a 10A load step, you can anticipate about a 50mV overshoot/undershoot.

    Thank you,
    Tomoya
