UCC24612: UCC24612 Technical Enquiry

Part Number: UCC24612
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC24610

Tool/software:

Hi, TI expert

A customer has a technical inquiry regarding UCC24612-1DBVR.

As shown below, when comparing UCC24612-1DBVR (TI) and MPS6908 (MPS) parts, there is a delay of about 120ns from when the FET_VDS waveform turns OFF until the GATE waveform turns ON, as shown in the red circle.

This causes a difference of about 1.5~2% in efficiency between the two ICs.

Q1) Is there any way to improve it?

Q2) If improvement is difficult, can you recommend another IC?

- The frequency to be used is 500KHz and the output voltage is 5Vdc.

Please check. Thank you.

  • Hello Grady,

The 120-ns turn-on delay designed into the UCC24612-1 controller for reasons to support use of this controller in a GaN ACF design.  This delay cannot be changed.

Compared to the MPS controller turn-on, the delay difference is actually only about ~70ns to get to about 5V.

There is an alternative TI part that can be considered: UCC24610.  https://www.ti.com/lit/gpn/UCC24610
This part can switch to 600kHz, and is specifically designed to run from the 5V output rail.
    Turn-on delay is typically ~44ns to Vgs = 1V.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
