BQ28Z620: Remaining Time Estimate Accuracy

Part Number: BQ28Z620

Tool/software:

Hi,

We have a BQ28Z620 BMS programmed with the golden image coming from the learning cycle. It currently uses the actual batteries used for the learning cycle.

Our application requires knowing the precise remaining operation time until the batteries are fully depleated, especially the last 10 minutes.

Our device consumption is stable so we did set the AtRate() and monitored the AtRateTimeToEmpty().

Unfortunately, the reported time to empty near battery depletion is quite far off.

  • Remaining 2=>1 minutes took 4 minutes
  • Remaining 1=>0 minutes took more than 10 minutes

Here are a few questions we would like to have your expertise on:

  1. Is it technically feasable to precisely measure the remaining time near battery depletion or will the measurement be imprecise, specially from device to device?
  2. Our 0% voltage is currently located a highly non-linear region at 6V. Would it help increase the accuracy of the remaining time if we increased the 0% voltage to a higher value?
    1. If we want to change the 0% charge threshold, can we do it without having to redo the learning cycle?

Thanks for your help,

Sebastien
