TPS6594-Q1: Default NVM Settings for TPS6594xxxx Variants

Hi, I’m seeking the default voltage output and NVM settings for the buck regulators and LDOs in TPS6594-Q1 variants like TPS65940400, TPS65941515, TPS65941319, TPS6594133, etc.. The public datasheet mentions NVM-defined defaults but lacks variant-specific details. Is there a technical reference manual or NVM map available for these parts? Thanks!

Hi Amir,

The NVM-specific details for different configurations can be found in the User Guide's for the different variants - these user guides talk about the NVM as well as how they would be used with particular MPUs/SOCs. You can find them on the product folder under the tech docs area: https://www.ti.com/product/TPS6594-Q1#tech-docs

TPS65940400 is the blank version of the device, so there is not something pre-loaded there.

Hi Katie,

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I have already inspected those documents. I could not find any references for the following devices:

TPS6594133
TPS65941421
TPS65941120

So I guess the best approach is to use a blank TPS65940400 device (which was mentioned nowhere that this is blank version until now), and program it with desired settings. TI lacks clarification on these part numbers.

Thanks for letting me know which part numbers you were still not finding:

TPS6594133 part number is too short - in this case I think you mean TPS6594133A which has the guide linked above: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slvuci2

The approach usually is:

1. Identify what processor or SoC you want to power.

2. Refer to our user's guides and system solutions to see if we already have a reference power design and OPN for that config

3. If you are using a different SoC where we don't have a reference design, either see if the existing configs will meet your needs, or work from the blank devices with our Scalable PMIC GUI to come up with your own configuration (here's user's guide for the GUI: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/SLVUBT8)

Hi Katie,

Thank you very much for the clarification. I am using another SoC which doesn't have a per-configured PMIC.

I guess I also need one of TPS6594EMV boards and I have to connect the TPS65940400 I2C or SPI lines from my board to this EVM to be able to program it.

Hi Amir,

Usually for initial development, our customers will start with the EVM board on its own for some evaluation or early development - you can program the TPS6594 that is already on the EVM multiple times (EEPROM memory) using our GUI. The EVM user's guide and GUI user's guide explain how to use both of these tools:

And then yes, you can move to your own board but flash the device over I2C or SPI, whether from the EVM or another device. We have a programming guide that would be helpful here: Scalable PMIC NVM Update Guide (Rev. A)
