LM5117: Damage

Part Number: LM5117

Tool/software:

On a few instances, we have experienced a failure of the LM5117 Buck Controller, which surprised us since we expected the failure in this circuit to be the thermal-heavy components (NFET, Inductor, sense resistor, etc.). What is the typical failure mechanism of this component? Can I send damaged components back for inspection?

  • Hi Ryan,

The expert AE of this device is currently out of office. Please allow me to chime in to avoid further delay.  Sorry to hear the issue, but your description does not have enough info for us to tell what was going wrong.  You may share your schematic, and the operating conditions when the issue occurred, and also please share more details about the failure.

Regarding returning the device to TI for further investigation, please submit the request at the following link.
