Hello,

I am using the BQ25071 charging IC to charge LiPO4 battery, along with the BQ29716 as the current-voltage protection IC. Please find the charging circuit schematic here: Battery Charging Circuit.

I have observed that the battery charges with ~100 mA charge current, which should be charged using 1 A charge current. The battery used has 300mA capacity. Though the max battery charging capacity is 4.1V, the circuit stops the charging at 3.5V battery voltage.

Important note: I have to always keep Battery NTC pin disconnected in order to charge / discharge the battery.

What changes I need to do in order to charge the battery at 1 A charge capacity also charge it up to 4.1V.

Hello Sagar,

As shown in the EC table, the I(IN_LIM) is set by KISET/RISET. KISET is 1000 A-Ohm. You have a ISET of 10kOhm. 1000/10000 is 0.1 A. Please use 1kOhm for 1 A application.

Hello Mike,

Thanks for the suggestion. I changed RISET to 1kOhm value. However, this does not affect the charge current value.

Please suggest if there are any other changes needed. Do you have any observations for the NTC pin being disconnected?

FYI, I do not know if this circuit can also be used with LiPo batteries, as the battery I am using is LiPO, whereas the BQ25071 datasheet suggests only LiFePO4 battery composition.

Hi Sagar,

I looked into this some more. This part has a charge regulation voltage of 3.5V. You cannot charge above this to 4.1V. Please choose another part.
