I would like to disable the buck controller when voltage drops to a certain level and bypass the buck regulator by connecting the input voltage to the buck regulator output. Will this cause any harm to the controller?

Hi DHaas,
Seems to be ok as long as you don't violate the abs max's for this device.
Some devices list values like VIN-0.3V, in this table, however it looks like the device does not.
