TPS1641: used in a Low Side Switch Application

I am looking at this part as an e-fuse for a client and their application doesn't fit the normal use case for devices such as these. It is 12V and 24V applications, but this device would be in the Low Side Switch leg of small fluid pumps. This puts the e-fuse at ground when the pump motors are turned on. The pump motors are sourced with either 12V or 24V. I'm not sure how well these devices will work i that application. This would have the IN of the device connected to 12V/24V through a pump motor with the OUT connected to ground through a switched FET.

Hello Amrit, Thees are small pump motors with start currents of less than 2A and running currents of around 0.8A

Additional:

These motors are used for thin fluid transfer in things like coffee makers. They are small DC motors that are used in simple ON/OFF applications.

Hello Amrit, as it turns out, these motors may, at times, be driven by PWM. Will that make a difference?

Is there an applications engineer I can actually talk to?

This support model doesn't really work if I can only get 1 question per day because of our time difference. It's 5:00AM at my location and I don't mind being available at this time, but this is not really communicating effectively!

Hello Michael,

I am application engineer for this part. Do you have TI FAE in contact?

TPS1641 is eFuse where the primary goal is to provide protection to the power path. In case of failure, device closes and protect the downstream system.

You will give PWM pulse to EN/SHDN pin of TPS1641. Device will have faster turn off if load is connected but turn on will be dVdT based start-up.

What will be your PWM frequency and duty cycle?
