TPS62A03: Request for TPS62A03 schematic review

Part Number: TPS62A03

Tool/software:

Hi, TI expert

The customer requested a schematic review using TPS62A03.

[spec]

- Input : 3.2Vdc ~ 4.15Vdc

- Output : 3Vdc , 3A

Are there any problems with the circuit? Are there any areas that need to be modified? Please review.

Thank you.

  • Hi Grady,

    The schematic looks fine.

    Best regards,

    Varun

  • Hi, Varun

    Thank you for quick response.

I just checked it on WEBENCH with the spec (Input: 3.2Vdc ~ 4.15Vdc / Output: 3Vdc, 3A) mentioned in the review request, but the circuit configuration is not done.

Are you sure the schematic looks fine?

I asked the customer for the spec again, and they reconfirmed that it is the spec (Input: 3.2Vdc ~ 4.15Vdc / Output: 3Vdc, 1A or more).

So, I tried WEBENCE again with the condition of Input: 3.2Vdc ~ 4.15Vdc / Output: 3Vdc, 1.5A, but the circuit configuration was not done, so I changed it to Input: 3.5Vdc ~ 4.15Vdc / Output: 3Vdc, 1.5A, and the circuit configuration was done.

Why doesn't it work with WEBENCH?

    Input: 3.2Vdc ~ 4.15Vdc / Output: 3Vdc, 1.5A. Please check the circuit review again.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Grady,

The TPS62A03 supports 100% mode. So it should be possible for VIN to be close to the output level. The minimum input voltage is given by the below equation

You can refer to section 7.3.2 100% Duty Cycle Low Dropout Operation in the datasheet.

I checked the lab data for efficiency and output DC regulation for 3.3V VOUT (we don't have data for 3V output) and input from 3.4V to 4.2V.

    Efficiency

    DC VOUT Regulation

The yellow curve (3.4V VIN) drops off at higher loads because of the higher RDSON and inductor DCR drops.

I can check with the Webench team on why this is disabled.

    Best regards,

    Varun
