TPSM8287A06: Remote sense to the other board

Part Number: TPSM8287A06

Tool/software:

Hi support team,

Is it recommended to use the remote sense function only with loads on the same board?
Can it also be used with loads on a different board?

Regards,
Dice-K

  • Hello Dice-K,

In general, the remote sense is not bound to the same board. It should connect to the lowest impedance point of the load, usually at the capacitors close to the load.

The issue is in the parasitic impedance of the connection. In many cases, the connectors and cables add to much resistance and inductance to the sense lines. This can cause instability in the regulator and requires close attention to the parasitics and measurements of the finished system.

For this reason, we recommend to place the regulator on the same board as the load.

    Regards, Werner
