TPS1663: Maximum allowed di/dt for hot short

Part Number: TPS1663

Tool/software:

Is there a maximum allowed di/dt for the TPS1663 to prevent damage to the device during a hot short?

We have a board with a large number of polymer caps close to the TPS1663 input and the potential for a very low inductance/resistance short on the output. We can add an inductor to the output if required, but the datasheet does not make it clear if this is required or what we should try to limit the di/dt to.

  • Hello Liam,

If you are planning to add inductor, please make sure to add Schottky diode at output to protect device from negative abs max.

There is no max di/dt we mention for eFuse. di/dt can be reduced by using appropriate cap on output.

We can recommend you test power into short, hard short condition on your board and place appropriate input and output cap.

    Thanks

    Amrit

  • Are you saying that the di/dt can theoretically be infinite (or as high as practically possible) or are you saying that it's just not something you can provide a specification for?

  • Hello Liam,

I am saying it's not defined. We ask customer to validate on their system as it can board specific.

As I mentioned earlier short circuit slew rate can be controlled by output cap.
