TPS25750EVM: Replace the main chip to TPS25751

Part Number: TPS25750EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25750, , TPS25751, BQ25731, TPS25751EVM

Tool/software:

Hi dears, I bought the TPS25750EVM in the past. Can I buy the new TPS25751 chip to replace the TPS25750 on this EVM board, and work on it correctly?

  • Hi Shahab,

There should be no issues with replacing TPS25750 with TPS25751 on the TPS25750EVM, however this may come with a couple limitations:

    1. TPS25750EVM comes with a on-board BQ25731 connected to TPS25750/TPS25751 I2Cc (controller, legacy master) and PPHV.

    2. TPS25750EVM does not come with the discrete liquid detection circuit that's built on the TPS25751EVM

    3. Currently the full flash binary should still work with the 256Kb (32KB) EEPROM on the TPS25750EVM, however in the future there may be new firmware that will outsize the EEPROM.

    4. This has not been tested on our end so can't guarantee no issues with swapping the chips.

about number 3. the firmware of the TPS25751 is upgradable? because if it's solid and not upgradable, how can it affect changing the eeprom size in the future?

  • Hi Shahab,

The base firmware (which is integrated with the configuration settings through the GUI) may have updates in the future for resolving bugs/issues or to reflect any changes in the USB-PD specs which is constantly evolving. For TPS25751 the recommended EEPROM size is 64KB (512kB) but with the current firmware it may still be able to fit in the 32KB (256Kb) EEPROM that's on the TPS25750EVM.
