BQ40Z50-R1: How to calculate OCD accuracy?

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Tool/software:

I have made the following configuration according to the user manual of BQ40Z50-R1.

How to calculate the detection range of the actual OCD?

Register value

OCD  :15A

RSNS:0

circuit diagram

RS1&RS2:4mΩ,1%

I found some relevant parameters in the datasheet, but how to use them to calculate?

  • Hello Nineteen,

Your ticket has been assigned and be review promptly.

    Thank you,
    Alan

  • Hello  Alan,

When can you give me a reply?I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Thank you,

    Nineteen

  • Hello Nineteen,

What register are you referring to calculating? typically default values are good enough for development phase.

    Thank you,
    Alan

  • I want to calculate accuracy of CCD1.

Even though the registers are already configured to 15A, I still want to know about the accuracy caused by chip detection and circuitry in worst and best case,Overcurrent protection can be activated.

  • Hello Nineteen,

With your system using your Rsense resistance value you can expect to see a current accuracy ~2.28uA within your setup. However the algorithm used within the Texas instrument gauges doesn't fully use the entire accuracy due to various of factor but your system will be a able to detect 15A and flag it as a OCD1.

    Thank you,
    Alan

  • Hello Alan,

    Thanks for your reply.

Does it means that whatever the Rsense resistance accuracy is,it's the gauges IC's internal algorithm that determines the current sensing accuracy?

The delay time of OCD1 is set to 2s, but according to the test waveform, OCD1 will only operate for more than 2 seconds when the load is 15 A,is this in line with gauges chip specifications? Because the accuracy of the chip sensing current that determined by gauges IC's internal algorithm affects the delay time?

  • Hello Nineteen,

The accuracy is heavily dependent on the tolerance of the Rsense component and the algorithm calculation being used. If you are seeing an issue with the accuracy within your current measurements than I would run a calibration within BQstudio. Also if you have OCD1 to operate a 2 seconds and you see a dealy within OCD1 could  you export a log of this event to verified along with a .gg.csv file too .

    Thank you,
    Alan
