TLV761: TLV76133DCYR

Part Number: TLV761

Tool/software:

Power supply 12V, load current set at 300mA, for 10 seconds, the output voltage will be pulled down to 0V, thermal protection.

My question is, why is the power supply capacity less than 500mA, or even 1A?

What does 1A on the specification refer to?

  • Hi,

The 1A specification is the maximum output current the LDO can supply so long as protective mechanisms such as thermal shutdown are not triggered, For VIN = 12V, VOUT = 0V and IOUT = 300 mA, the thermal dissipation is large enough to push the junction temperature high enough to trigger thermal shutdown. If you reduce the power dissipation by decreasing the VIN - VOUT difference, and/or by reducing ambient temperature, you will notice that the device can supply even more IOUT up till the current limit.
