Hi Team,

We have a requirement to convert -48V to +12V @3A (or above) and came across the UCC2897A. I would like to check whether this part can accept a negative Input (-48V typ) within the range of -32V ~ -72V.

It would be great if you could provide your input on this. Your suggestions are highly appreciated.

    Yes, you just need to reverse the input connected to the UCC2897A converter. You know a battery has + and -, you can connect the battery either way so the same for your input voltage to UCC2897A converter.

    I am considering my input voltage as either -48V or +48V, and it should work accordingly. Is there any additional input circuitry required before connecting to the UCC2897A? (as input either +48V OR -48V)

    Additionally, we are looking for a 12V output at 3A (or above) with a wide input range of 4.5V ~ 60V (above). Could you provide any suggestion for this requirement? Note: If my input is 10V or lower, it should not affect the Output generation (12V @3A).

    Then you can add a full bridge rectifier between the input voltage and the converter so the I converter can get correct input no matter +48V or -48V.

    UCC2897A minimum voltage input needs to be 12.7V so it does not work when lower than this. You need to add a boost converter to get the voltage higher than 12.7V.

    Could you please suggest a power topology (ICs) that supports a wide input range of 4.5V ~ 60V and providing a constant 12V output at 3A (or above)?

    UCC2803 or UCC2805 but these are not active clamp and we do not have active clamp can do 4.5V input.
