problem with BQ24030

Are you using the TS pin, if not please connect it to 10K resistor to disable it.

how to connect the resistor - between TS and GND?

i connect between TS and GND and it seems like charging now.

the battery should work between 0-45C, and i am doing that at room temperature on the desk.

 does it mean the BQ is over 45C or that the battery NTC sense is over 45C?

how can i use correctlly the TS pin with the NTC at the battery? i use  JOINSET p/n    ECTH100505103F 3435FST (it comes with the battery)

how long the precharge stage can take?

the battery is 2.6A, is charging more then 2 hours, the volatge accross the battery is 4.14V, but when i disconnect it and measure the voltage it is 3.85V, like at the begining.

i am using 2 boards: my and the EVM, at both same situation. STAT1 and STAT 2 are both on.

What is the VBAT pin Voltage?

Hi Golan,

It looks like the charger never leaves the pre-charge mode. This phase is determined by the voltage at the BAT pin. If it is less than minimum charging voltage, the IC applies a pre-charge current.

Also, make sure that your battery is charging, use a power supply and see if you can charge it. Make sure that the protection circuit of the battery does not forbid the charging. Measure the charging current.

the battery voltage when not connected is 3.84V, when connecting the voltage on the BAT pin is 4.14V and not charging.

why is it stack at pre-charge?

Did you try charging the battery with a power supply?

Did you measure the Batter charging current?

i chrged with power supply 5V 2A

i will measurethe current and let you know.

the BQ output is connect to TPS63020, which boost the voltage to 5V, since the system all time (almost) will supply from LI-PO battery 2600mah . to the TPS output connect  a 5V module with maximim peack current of 1.5A, can the TPS deliver while no external supply at the BQ only battery connect to it?

Make sure that the charger TMR pin is set correctly.

T(CHG)=K(TMR)*R(TMR)

At this point, we do not know what causing the battery not charging. Simple experiment to check if the protections circuitry of the battery is not preventing the charging:

Use a power supply>>set the power supply to about 4V>>set the current limit to 500mA>>connect the + terminal of the power supply to + terminal of your battery>> connect the –terminal of your power  to the – terminal of the battery>>if you have current probes, use them to measure the charging current. If you do not have them, use about 10ohm resistor in series and measure the voltage across Icharge=V/10.

What is the volume of your application ?

Please do that experiment so I make sure that the Battery is not the cause of the issue.

I went through your schematic. Here are my comments:

·          You are using an AC adapter as your power source; make sure the protection Fuse “F1” is properly operating. Does the ACPG pin indicate that the adapter is present? (ACPG pin is open drain).    

·          CE pin section is not clear; make sure CE is high to enable the IC.

·          TS pin should be connected at all time, if you want to disable this function please connect it to 10K resistor to ground.

·          I am assuming C25 is not connected.   

Can you please confirm that you can charge your battery using a power supply?

Can you please send me scope plots of:

·          V BAT

·          Vout

·          VAC

·          Charge current

 Sorry for the late response, it is holiday here in the US so I did not work on Thursday and Friday.  

 The plots look ok!

Also, please increase TMR to 50K.  Discharge the battery and try to charge it again.

 In the forums, you said even the bq2403xEVM does not work. Can you try the test procedure on the EVM user’s Guide (SLUU207A)” on section 4.3:

 If the test procedure does not work in your EVM, basically the EVM is damaged.
