BQ34Z100-G1: Design Energy

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Bq34z100-G1 is used for a 15cell LiFeP04 battery pack project. Current design's nominal voltage is 48V (15x3.2V) and capacity is 100Ah. So calculated design energy is 4.8kWH. As you can see in the belopw picture, design energy in mWh. Design energy scale is between 0-255. Design energy is between 0-5400. Even if maximum values are chosen , calculated design energy is 4800*255=1 224 000 mWh.

If design energy is calculated using one cell parameter, design energy is 3200mV*100Ah=320 000mWh. So design energy selects 3200 and design energ scale selects 100. Is this correct? I'm not clear about this register. Could you explain how can I calculate design energy? If it is a possible coul you give me a example for 15 serices cell 100Ah?

Thanks for support

  • Hello Alan,

Is there any update about this issue?

  • Hello Korcan,

the method to find the design energy= Design capacity(Xp) x Design Voltage (1s). Now if you would like to use scaling than you would have to divide the portion amount you decided to set the scale to. Another tip is that although you can go from 0-100 within scaling we heavily recommend staying within 0-10 to keep a high resolution within your gauge. Also we emphasize that if you change the scaling with voltage that all other parameter that include voltage would also need to be update and the same goes as well for current and energy. For your example of 15 series cell you design energy = 3200mV *100Ah =320 000mWh and if you do a scaling of 100 than your design energy would be 3200. Within your system it would be recommend changing the scaling within your current aswell as your design energy to stay within the 0-10 range.

    Thank you,
    Alan
