Hi,

Due to some circumstances. We are having to operate at Vin - Vo = 45V. The losses in the LDO would be 2.1W. The thermal design is very good and temperature of the device is not crossing 80C on the case. What kind of failure mode can we expect? We want to make 100 boards with this configuration.

Can you recommend a pin to pin drop in replacement with higher Vin-Vo rating?

Vin = 60V

Vout = 15V

Many thanks for your question!

Since your Vi - Vo is greater than the Absolute maximum of the device as per the LM317 datasheet, it may cause permanent damage to the device. Exposure to absolute-maximum- rated conditions for extended periods may affect device reliability.

Unfortunately, we do not have a pin-to-pin device available - But we do have TPS7A16A-Q1, that can handle 60V at the IN pin and adjustable Vout from 1.2V to 18.5V.
