BQ21088: Simple USB->(LIPO/LifePo4) with protection, regulated output

Part Number: BQ21088
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25186, BQ25185, BQ25188

Tool/software:

I'm looking for solutions to charge a single cell 3.7 LIPO or 3.2V 18500 LifePo4 battery from USB, handle the power switchover, battery protection, and boost/regulate to 3.3V or 5V or both.  Looks like max draw on the supply will be around 200 mA.  Standalone/jumper configurable, although I2C/SPI may be available from the powered circuit.  The BQ21088 looks like it might work, excepting the 3.3V out.  I'd prefer a package (or packages, if multiple devices are required) more suitable for hand assembly.

Suggestions?

Intention is to make a tiny castellated PCB suitable for re-use in ESP32 / nRF52840 / MG24 projects.

  • Hello John,

The BQ21088 is a great choice for your application. We also have the BQ25186, which is essentially the WSON package version of the BQ25188/BQ21088. The BQ25185 is another option—it's a standalone (resistor-configurable) charger that also comes in a WSON package.

Let me know what you think about these options or if you have any other questions.

    Best regards,

    Alec
