UCC5350: Smaller Package Gate Driver with 1 Channel & Functional Isolation

Hi Team,

Customer would like to know whether TI has smaller package gate driver with 1 channel & functional isolation? They want to reduce the size and functional isolation is enough for application. Thanks.

    Hi Francis,

    D-package, or 4mm wide, is the most narrow body single channel gate driver that our product line makes. It is the smallest area isolated gate driver. The UCC23525 is larger overall, but it has 6 pins and therefore is 4.7mm tall instead of 4.9mm from top to bottom. 

    There are non-isolated gate drivers that are made in a SOT23 package.

    Hi Sean,

    Thanks for your help.

    But customer need at least functional isolation, for PFC side and LLC primary side(add digital isolator).

    I have heard other customers also have this requirement.

    Hi Francis,

    What package are they requesting? You cannot put too much voltage across a short distance, or the electric field will be strong enough to arc through the air.

    We have to test our devices in oil when verifying the part's internal isolation barrier, since the air is a path of less resistance.

    Hi Sean,

    I agree with you, but there is just functional isolation requirement so the distance should not be a problem as customer don't require a basic or reinforced isolation. I think DFN package is the target, but I don't listen it very clearly, please help double check it, thanks a lot.
