BQ34Z100: How can I scale the current using register

Part Number: BQ34Z100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO,

Tool/software:

Hello,
I'm using the BQ34Z100 EVM for scaling current. My setup involves 16 cells, a 51.2V pack, and a 100Ah battery. According to the datasheet, there is an "X10" bit in the Pack Configuration register to scale the current, but I cannot find the "X10" bit in the bqStudio tool.

How can I scale the current using this register (in my case, with STM32) or is there an alternative method to achieve the correct scaling?

Thank you!

  • Hi,

What is your max discharge current for your application?

What Fw version are you using?

  • -I am using firmware version 1.3.127 and found the BQ34Z100, but there is some inconsistency in the data memory

-I also tried version 1.3.101, but I could only find the BQ34Z100-G1, not the BQ34Z100.(difference in the Pack Configuration register between the two versions.)

    -max discharge current 50A

  • Hi,

The 1.3.127 is the version of BQstudio you are running. I am referring to the FW that has been uploaded to the BQ34z100. There are 3 version, 0.07 this is the original FW, 0.16 this is G1 FW, and 2.02.31 this is R2 FW. Each FW has a corresponding TRM, so you are probably looking at the wrong TRM. It is easy to identify which FW version you are running by looking at which device BQstudio autodetects.

It should be noted that current scale does not scale the current reading it is used when the parameters do not fit within the min and max allowed values for that parameter. You will need to change sense resistors and calibrate. It is important that the voltage on the SRN/SRP pins is not exceeded.
