TPS25751: USB-C Upstream Facing Port USB2.0 with Source Capabilites

I am trying to figure out if it is possible to design a circuit that involves TPS25751 (USB Type-C® and USB PD Controller with Integrated Power Switches
Optimized for Power Applications) in which it acts as a UFP (USB 2.0) with source capabilities. The datasheet doesn't exactly have a circuit schematic in it that does it this way. The datasheet examples involve battery charger which we actually do not need since we will be solely providing power to VBUS using the System 5V. We only need 5V, 3A for the VBUS and we do not plan on getting more than that so there is no need to have a power source connected to the PPHV pin and will not be using the USB Type-C® Power Delivery capabilities.

    The TPS25751 has an integrated 5V/3A  sourcing power path (PP5V) and can be configured to be a UFP 2.0 device in the USBCPD Application Customization Tool.

  • We are planning to use the TPS25751 in a source-only configuration, so we will not be connecting to the PPHV. Instead, we will be providing 5V externally through PP5V. The device will never be in a dead-battery scenario, meaning that the TPS25751 will not be powered via VBUS when VIN_3V3 is low, as stated on page 38 of the TPS25751 datasheet.

    Given this, does this mean an EEPROM is necessary in our setup? From what I understand, the EEPROM is only required for a dead-battery scenario. Specifically, regarding the default behavior configuration (ADCIN1, ADCIN2), if VIN_3V3 is never low, would the system ever enter a dead-battery configuration? Therefore, would we still need an EEPROM?

    An EEPROM or an MCU would be required to load the configuration (desired device capabilities) onto the PD controller. 

    The ADCIN setting determines the behavior of the device when booting in a dead battery condition (i.e. being powered from VBUS). If the device is always powered from VIN3V3, it will not enter a dead-battery case. But when powered off, the TPS25751 will assert Rd and would accept 5V from a power source to power up the system. However, the sink path would be disabled and not allow any current through the path.
