BQ25820EVM: Internal ADC Measurement Error

Part Number: BQ25820EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Tool/software:

Using BQStudio and mentioned BQZ file, the ADC registers (VAC_ADC, VBAT_ADC< IAC_ADC, and IBAT_ADC) readings do not match actual measured values.  The VAC_ADC and VBAT_ADC readings are lower by 200mV than measured with a DMM and the IAC_ADC and IBAT_ADC readings are considerably lower than measured (IAC is 215mA reading vs. 395mA measured and IBAT is 360mA reading vs. 510mA measured). It is configured for 2S battery config(JP1=open, JP2=56K). Since I haven't changed either sense resistor (input R2=0.002 ohm and battery sense R24= 0.005 ohm), what could be the problem?  I did verify that the 16-bit 2's complement word matched the value (V or mA) displayed, but again the displayed value doesn't match the measured value. The chip rev is 2.

  • Hello Erik,

We don't spec the accuracy of the ADC channels. I'd recommend using a dedicated battery gauge or other meter to get an accurate measurement of the VAC, VBAT, or IBAT.The ADC is mainly used to give provided a general indicator for the voltage and current levels, and should not be relied for customer's system.

    Best Regards,

    Christian.
