TPS7H1101A-SP: short questions

Part Number: TPS7H1101A-SP

Tool/software:

For the 5962R1320202VXC, should a short appear on the output, would its magnitude be determined by the external PCL resistor? Additionally, how quickly does over current foldback respond to a current exceeding the PCL?

Thanks,
Adam

  • Hi Adam,

Yes, the PCL resistor will set the IOUT threshold at which the current limit becomes active and is held. There would likely be some initial overshoot from the DC current limit for faster short events, and the magnitude of the overshoot would be dependent on the speed and severity of the short.

The delay between current demanded while limited and the resulting foldback reaction is not something that has been characterized, so I can't give a specific value. But this should generally be on the magnitude of propagation delays and if the speed of the short is slower, the device would essentially follow the event without much noticeable added delay.

    Thanks,

    Sarah
