BQ20Z80: BQ Easy parameters all show data flash?

Part Number: BQ20Z80
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ29312

Tool/software:

Comparing two units based on BQ20z80 using BQ Eval as one has some issues... or possibly parameters as flags don't seem to tell the story for what or why a unit is not working.

I'm looking at the .gg dumps side by side and they are identical but the units perform differently, I'd like to point to hardware failure but wanted to be sure all parameters show up.

Is FET control all coded and shown in Data flash as in Operation Cfg A = 0B28, Operation Cfg B = 1E60 or Operation Cfg B = 6440, Operation Cfg C = 0000 or is it that flashing the chip from bqEasy Setup for parameters as ZVCHG, PFIN and SYS PRES don't show up in the Data Flash .gg file?

  •  I'm not exactly working on an ESD safe workstation and on one board I replaced the bq29312, on the other I replaced some FETs. Probably looking for trouble... and I don't really have a good way or knowledge of how to diagnose what is happening on the board.

Yesterday I tested different combanations of ZVCHG, PFIN and SYS_Pres settings in BQeasy to see if I could get some predictability. I don't have a schematic and other than following traces which a few disappear beneath the ICs, just have to guess. What I can see though is if I hook an unadultrated board to the EV2300 I get Cfg A and B settings which I believe now based on the BQeasy testing does show up in Data Flash register dump.

And from that... though I have changed ZVCHG, PFIN and SYS_Pres settings don't get desired results even if I set them back to the Mfg's original code.

    So, probably damaged some chips.

  • Hello David,

It sounds like you are dealing with damaged IC and I will closed out this ticket, however if you have a question than you can still ask a question on this trend.

    Thank you,
    Alan
