  • Hi Max,

    Have you checked this post?

    Let usknow if this helps.

  • I cannot open the link:

  • Hello Max,

  • This is useless, my problem is not this guide problem, the problem is MSP432E401Y simplelink Ethernet microcontroller as the analog EVM controller(AEVM)  does not work properly, I have 2 AEVM boards, both of them cannot make link to my target the board or work unstably, 95% time does not work properly, 5% time works unstably, very weird,  I was looking for TI supporter who is familiar with this AEVM, so far TI does not have right supporter for this AEVM which is used to debug TPS6594-Q1 and LP876441B1RQKRQ1.

do you have other suggestion ?

  • Hello Max,

Understood. Could you clarify what EVM you are using by providing a link to the device's ti.com/ product page or mentioning the exact EVM part number? It is not clear to me what is being used, and multiple results show up when searching with the descriptors provided above.

If you are referring to the EVM "MSP-EXP432E401Y", the User's Guide, shown in the following link, does not have any mention of the device "TPS6594":

  • yes I used user guide:

yes, this is TI recommended to use for TPS6594-Q1 debug in GUI guide : Scalable PMIC's GUI User’s Guide

    in section 1,

the fact is I can see both PMICs from GUI sometimes, and once upon a time, even allow me to program NVM but very unstable.

  • Hello Max,

Correct, as mentioned in Section 1 of the "Scalable PMIC's GUI User's Guide", the " MSP432E401Y SimpleLinkTm Ethernet Microcontroller" is used as the "analog EVM controller" on the TPS6594EVM.

Can you confirm that you are using the TPS6594EVM (attempting to connect to the GUI using the on-board MSP432), or is a different EVM being used? This will help narrow down whether the issue is with the MCU on the TPS6594EVM.

    Best regards,
    Jude Stehling

  • I used " MSP432E401Y"  AVEM board as Scalable PMIC's GUI User's Guide recommended, I never used other EVM.

can you tell what better EVM for the TPS6954-Q1 and LP87441-Q1 using with this GUI?

both PIMCs are used by DRA821U-Q1 SoC.

as far as i can see " MSP432E401Y"  AVEM can work for both PMICs, just very unstable.

  • Hello Max,

If I had to guess, I would say that on your current board the MSP432 is flashed with the incorrect settings so that the GUI does not detect it as an AEVM communication bridge. Are you able to check the "Device Manager" on windows to see what Communications port the MSP432 is detected as?

The recommended board to use for prototyping with the TPS6594-Q1 is the TPS6594EVM, which can be found at the following link: TPS6594EVM Evaluation board | TI.com

  • yes, I can see it from device manager, I can use GUI to see both PMICs TPS6954-Q1 and LP87441-Q1 on my target board.

    it is not working stably.

I am using TPS6594141BRWERQ1 and LP876441B1RQKRQ1, your link 2 EVM

    which one should I buy?

can EVM board access both my PMICs?

    Thanks

    Max

  • Hello Max,

It is not obvious to me what you are trying to connect to or do. With your current setup, are the PMICs you are attempting to connect to placed on a PCB manufactured for your own evaluation or are you using a different TI EVM? A picture of your setup may help with understanding, if you are able to provide it.

The EVMs that can be used for this are the below. Keep in mind, the PMIC on these EVMs may need to be reflashed in the GUI in order to have the NVM settings that you require for the PMICs to work with one another. However, these should be able to connect to the GUI much easier than any other setup.

  • first of all, I have no EVM, I try to re-program NVM for both PMICs, I see GUi instruction recommended  MSP432 which can work for both PMICs.

I need to understand if other tool can do similar thing as  MSP432 reliably.

I think it does not need to buy 2 EMVs, one for LP87644Q1and one for TPS6594Q1, I want to know if one EVM can cover all needs.

    Thanks

    Max

  • Hello Max,

It is difficult to help you determine what is causing your problems since you have not explained what your setup looks like.

I am not sure what you mean by the following. What "other tool" are you referring to?

"I see GUI instruction recommended MSP432 which can work for both PMICs. I need to understand if other tool can do similar thing as MSP432 reliably."

Potentially, buying only 1 EVM may help you connect to the GUI. One PMIC could be on your board and the other PMIC on the TI EVM. However, I do not know what your current setup is. Two EVMs may be a safer solution because there is a proven and reliable way of connecting the LP87644Q1EVM and TPS65941212EVM together in order to connect to the GUI.
