LP5569: Low Power RGB LED Driver

Part Number: LP5569
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP5813,

Tool/software:

Does TI have any LED driver options similar to the LP5569 without the requirement for a separate 1.8V supply for the digital logic? I'm looking for an IC with at least 6 channels, onboard memory, I2C interface, and ultra low IQ in shutdown mode as this is for a battery powered application. The 5569 is the best option I've found so far for my application; however, my design used 3.3V system power and we do not want to have to add another LDO just for the LED driver, which will further increase system Iq. The LP5009 could also work for my application, except this chip has no onboard memory and does not retain register values in shutdown mode. Ideally I'm looking for something that can bridge the gap between these two driver options.

  • Hi Tyler,

Please take a look at the LP5813, 12-channel RGB LED driver with I2C interface, integrated boost converter and animation engine. The LP5813 supports standby mode with about 26uA quiescent current and register value retain, besides the shutdown mode with less than 1uA quiescent current but not registers value retain.

    Best regards,

    Felix

  • Thanks Felix,
I took a look at the 5813 but the standby mode is much too high for my application. For context, our system level current in sleep mode right now is about 5uA average).

  • Hi Tyler,

Ok, I think LP5523 (DSBGA pkg) or LP55231 (WQFN pkg) should satisfy your requirement, which supports ultra low standby current (~1uA), has animation engine control and doesn't require additional 1.8V power rail. Except for the LED common cathode connection compared to LP5569 common anode connection.

    Best regards,

    Felix
