LM5155: Self-Sync Behavior

Part Number: LM5155

Tool/software:

Hello all,

Thank you sincerely for the guidance you provide here. I am designing a device with a few LM5155's using frequency synchronization. The design is working great with an external clock pulse provided to the SYNC pins described in the datasheet. I am currently using the sync without UVLO, so the only component on the sync bus is the clock generator. As I said, the design works great.

I removed the clock generator while working on one of the prototypes, and noticed that the LM5155s continued switching. What's more, they continued to switch IN SYNC.

Here's my question: am I missing something in the datasheet, or is self-syncing expected behavior? I thought an external clock pulse was required in cases of synchronization, but I'd be happy to skip the external clock gen on smaller designs.

Just let me know. Thanks
