TPS7A94: Layout

Part Number: TPS7A94

Tool/software:

Hi!

I used to have in my designs low-noise high-PSRR LDOs from AD, but I want to try your product.

I see TPS7A94 uses pretty the same technique as LT30xx family, in this case I want to replace LT3041.

My question is about layout recommendations for sense connection.

The main problem is to connect sense as close as possible to output capacitor.

AD makes this trick: make capacitor 4-pad footprint and connect sense to this pad.

Also NR/SS (SET) is connected to ground throw this capacitor.

In TPS7A94 I see this recomendation:

I prefer to use trick from LT30xx for TPS7A94 layout, what do you think?

  • Hi Stas,

I am reviewing your query, and I will get back to you with a preliminary response within 1-2 business days.

  • Hello Stas,

The trick you are suggesting is acceptable. However, keep in mind that the datasheet states "Kelvin connects the SNS pin through a low-impedance connection to the output capacitor and load for optimal transient performance."  It is my opinion that the method you referred above for the LT30xx connection does not guarantee the least- impedance connection.
