BQ25505: How to change eval board? BQ25505 pinout not same as BQ25570

Part Number: BQ25505
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25570,

Tool/software:

The BQ25505 and BQ25570 are not pin compatible, so how do we go about modifying the eval board for the BQ25570 in order to be able to use the BQ25505?  For example, pin 14 is the buck converter output 'VOUT' on the BQ25570 whereas pin 14 on the BQ25505 is the input 'VBAT_PRI' which is "Primary (nonrechargeable) energy storage element HiZ sense input. Leave floating if not used".  Would TI please generate a document for how to modify the board to use a BQ25505?

  • Hi Chris,

The devices are very similar so you should be able to use most of the board but you will have to do the following changes, but there are limitations. Are you planning to use the VB_SEC_ON/VB_PRI_ON signals of the BQ25505? These will be difficult to evaluate on a BQ25570EVM.

    Some simple changes would be:

    - Remove L2 from the board.

    - Remove the JP6 Jumper.

    - Remove JP3 Jumper

Some more complicated changes can be done but they would involve trace cutting and reconnection.

You can see the changes needed below:
