BQ27220: How to reduce current consumption

Hello Atsushi,

    Your schematics are good and functional but is your device constantly consume more than 100uA than there could be some things that could hint to it. Are you within the ranges of the VBat pin that can go up to 6 volts. Another issues that can be causing this is having a high resistance to ground/BATT and to mitigate this I would have a wide traces going to GND/BATT specially  the on the VSS, BAT, and VDD pin. Lastly look into the technical reference manual on how to enter sleep mode within your system to get the most energy saving from your mcu.
    In terms of the mcu I have attached a "gauge communication" application note that helps explain communication between the mcu and gauge to help deal with the gauge not starting up.

Vbat is Max 4.2V.

The customer knows that power saving is possible via commands from the MCU, however they would like to reduce the current consumption before the MCU starts up.

Do you have any solution in this case?

According to the datasheet, Icc is "TYP" 50uA, but is 100uA normal?

In other words, is 100uA within the acceptable range of the spec?

The datasheet normal mode power consumption of 50uA isn't strict and supposed to be the average power consumption throughout the voltage curve. I would rerun the test of the power consumption from fully charge to discharge and make sure that your equipment you use to verified is calibrated. Lastly the only way to decrease your power consumption is by going into sleep mode and you can increase the chance of that by increase the "sleep current" parameters however you would have a last accurate SOC sleep mode is limited in what it can do.

Hi Alan-san,

The customer confirmed that the current consumption of the EVM is within the specification range.

Also, they found that the capacitance of C47 on the their board was smaller than recommended in the datasheet, and they ware able to improve it by changing it to the same capacitance as the EVM.
