LMZ14202H: Vmax Enable

Part Number: LMZ14202H

Tool/software:

Hi there,

in order to reduce inrush currents at start up i want to enable the LMZ140202H when Input Voltage already is higher than the desired output voltage (+12Vin to +7Vout).

According to datasheet the maximum voltage for the Enable Pin is 6.5V, why that? And could you tell me what happens if i enable at about +10V, using 74k for RENT and 10k for RENB?

Thank you!

Markus

  • Hi Markus,

The operating voltage of EN is 6.5V and the absolute maximum rating for EN pin is 7V. Beyond that level, the device will damage. You should not apply 10V directly at EN pin.

Please note that, for your application, you want to enable device when Vin=10V (Not EN=10V). To meet this requirement, RENT~74K and RENB=10k looks fine. By using this resistor divider, at Vin ~9.9V, the EN pin voltage will rise to 1.18V (Typical rising threshold) and the device will be enabled.

  • Hi Arpita,

thanks for the detailed answer, makes sense this way. Problem solved. Thanks!

    All the best
