Tool/software:

I need 2 BMS designs for (1) a 2S (4 Ahr) and (2) a 3S (8 Ahr, with peak current of 5A for 1-3 minutes 10 times per hour). I was looking at your bq40z50EVM reference design as a starting point. One concern I have is the effort/cost/resources required to prepare the device for production (BQ40Z50 Setup and Going to Production video). Are there any BMS reference designs with chips that come pre-configured for Li-ion batteries and don't need all the pre-production testing to program them?

Hello Mark,

All the current battery gauges nearly the same setup process and requires a fair amount of researching, I would recommend the BQ40z50 and follow the datasheet for the hardware setup, technical reference manual for the software setup and the EVM for the implantation of the system. During the setup I would began by running a calibration of the different units in the calibration tab. Afterwards I would update the critical parameters within the data memory table. I would then run the GPCCHEM calculator and get a chemID that has a difference error of 3%. With the BQStudio I would rerun the learning cycle and you shouldn't see any issues on your end.

Design Capacity, Design Voltage, Charge Term Taper Current, Discharge (Dsg) Current Threshold, Charge (Chg) Current Threshold, Quit Current and Term Voltage

As I said in my original post, I am not interested in using the BQStudio to characterize a battery pack or program a chip. I do need to find a BMS solution for a 2S and 3S pack as I defined in my original post.

There is not 2s & 3s IC chips that come "pre-configured for Li-ion batteries and don't need all the pre-production testing to program them". All the IC's battery gauge that do 2s & 3s would need BQStudio to charzterized and program the chip. Based on your application that is why I recommend the BQ40z50-R2 and I've attached the ICs page that would have the reference schematics in datasheet, parameter and registers defitition in the techincal reference manual and the EVM that combines both software and hardware. The only battery gauge that does pre-programmed with li-ion batteries are BQ27427 and the BQ27426 but these are strictly for single cell application.
