LM5146: Opposite side inductor mounting

Part Number: LM5146
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5137F

Tool/software:

This is a bit of a general question as I work to implement a design based on LM5146.

I'd like to have the opportunity to heatshink the FETs of my design with thermal pads to metal under the PCBA, and so it's preferred to place the FETs on the bottom side of the board.

The inductor however cannot be placed bottom side as I do not have the clearance.

I know the primary goal here is to keep the loop areas and the switching node small, as well as try to maintain reference to the nearest ground plane.

Are there any TI app notes which discuss opposite side magnetic mounting in switching regulators?

My idea is to place the magnetic top side directly above the FETs with numerous vias to connect the switching node, surrounded by ground stitching vias. Output capacitors could be placed either top or bottom side to minimize the output loop area.

Alternatively, I could place the whole design top-side as the exact reference layout, and simply expose soldermask on the bottom of the PCB under the FETs and try to sink heat from the board itself.

Looking for any app notes or guidance on this, thank you!
