TPS26750: Inquiry for recommendation of PD controller that has obtained USB-IF certification

Part Number: TPS26750
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25751

Tool/software:

Hi, TI expert

The customer has applied USB2.0 TYPE-C connector and is in the process of USB-IF certification.

If there is a USB TYPE-C dedicated controller or PD controller that has obtained USB-IF certification, can you recommend it?

(PD controller must support version 3.2 or higher.)

Thank you.

  • Hi Grady,

    Thank you for reaching out!

The TPS25751 and TPS26750 can support PD3.2. The next release of the GUI will include features needed to support PD3.2 and is targeted to be released next month.

What is your end-application? Does your design require EPR (Extended Power Range) support?

    Best Regards,

    Aya Khedr

  • Hi, Aya Khedr

The customer said that he does not use the EPR function. Power is within the maximum 5V/3A.

    The customer has additional inquiries.

Q1) Both(TPS25751 and TPS26750) of your products are USB-IF certified for PD3.1 on the datasheet, but I'm curious about the PD certification version. Do you support version 3.1.1.8?
Customer asking because the minimum version for the PD exam is no more than two years old.
The 3.1.1.8 version is because the release data is April 2023, so the test is conducted with the 3.1.1.8 version. (Version below 3.1.1.8 will fail.)

    - You side : The next release of the GUI will include features needed to support PD3.2 and is targeted to be released next month.

Q2) For both TPS25751 and TPS26750, can the internal PD version be updated via software?  Also, is it possible to remove and add PD related function blocks?

    Please check. Thank you.

  • Hi Grady,

PD 3.1.1.8 will be obsolete within the next month.

The TPS25751 just got certified for PD 3.2 earlier this year, and we are working on releasing the GUI that will support the PD compliance update within the next 1-2 months. PD compliance is backwards compatible.

Q2) For both TPS25751 and TPS26750, can the internal PD version be updated via software?  Also, is it possible to remove and add PD related function blocks?

Yes, the PD compliance is updated via an up to date PD fw image.

You can enable and disable PD features in the APP customization GUI.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris

  • Hi, Chris

Did the TPS26750 also get PD3.2 certification earlier this year?

    Thank you for support.

  • Hi Grady,

Yes, the TPS26750 got PD3.2 certification this year. We are working on updating the Datasheets as well to reflect this for both parts.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris
