TPS6594-Q1: Need confirmation on Applicability of Safety AoUs from Section 4.4 of TPS6594-Q1 safety manual

Part Number: TPS6594-Q1

Tool/software:

1. SA_29 : The actuator has a pull~-down resistance on its enable input pin connected to the EN~_DRV of theTPS6594~-Q1~, such that the system is in a safe state in case this pin is due to a fault not connected to the enable input pin of the actuator.

-> EN_DRV is connected to Aurix MCU, not to any actuator in our system application. Due to this can we mark this SA_29 AoU Not Applicable for our system?

-> Can you also point out the other relevant AoUs or requirements which we may exclude due to this?

2. [SA_32] The MCU/SoC Processor has a pull~-down resistance on its reset input pins connected to then RSTOUT pin of the TPS6594~-Q1 and the GPIO pin of the TPS6594~-Q1 used as nRSTOUT~_SoC~, such that the system is in a safe state in case these pins are due to a fault not connected to the reset input pins of the MCU/SoC Processor.

-> nRSTOUT is NOT connected to Aurix RESET pin, it is connected to a GPIO. nRSTOUT is used to inform MCU that PMIC is completed its power up sequencing correctly. So use of nRSTOUT is different in our system application as compared to this safety requirement. Due to this can we mark this SA_29 AoU Not Applicable for our system?

-> Can you also point out the other relevant AoUs or requirements which we may exclude due to this?

3. [SA_31] In case two or more BUCK regulators of the TPS6594~-Q1 are used in multiphase configuration~, the Point~-of~-Load supplied by these mulch~-phase BUCK regulators has an internal voltage monitor~, or the system includes an external voltage monitor in the supply rail created by these mulch~-phase BUCK regulators.

-> Multiphase output is not used in our system application; all output are single phase configurations. Due to this can we mark this SA_29 AoU Not Applicable for our system?

yes you can mark as not applicable

  • Can you please also provide feedback on point no. 1 & 2 as well?

  • Thank you for your inquiry. US and Europe TI offices are closed on April 18th. You will receive a response early next week. Thank you for your patience!

    Regards,

    Katie

The purpose of SA_29 and SA_32 is to account for situation that EN_DRV , nRSTOUT, and nRSTOUT_SOC are not connect to their proposed destination. The pull-down resistance would prevent an accidental "high" from occurring due to a floating pin.

If in your system the Aurix MCU pins connected to EN_DRV, nRSTOUT, and nRSTOUT_SOC float high could the system go into an unsafe state? If no, then these AoUs are not relevant.
