TPS92200: Reg: Using the TPS92200D2DDCR LED driver as a Driver for heater band.

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Heater Specifications:

Rated Power: 5W,

Rated Voltage: 5V.

LED Driver Part number: TPS92200D2DDCR

The below attached image shows the Schematics used for the evaluation purpose:

The heater+ driver combination works fine with the set-up, i am concerned about the reliability issues with using this combination for a long time. Please confirm this combination is reliable to use.

  • Hi,

Does the heater require constant drive current for normal operating? constant current on resistive load may cause output over voltage issue.

  • Hi,

There is no specific requirement for the Heating element to operate in constant current mode. I am thinking a concept of controlling current through the Heating element using the LED driver, proportionally will help in controlling the temperature of the heating element. Is there any serious issue using this combination?

  • Hi,

resistor power loss U^2/R=I^*R, so apply constant voltage or current have same result.

Pls check data sheet of Heating element, it's better to use normal buck converter with constant output voltage if the heater characteristics are specified with voltage.

constant output current is good for output short or overload condition, but worse for output open load condition.
