UCC27282: Electrical failure of components, despite soldering points showing all good per X-ray examination?

Part Number: UCC27282

Tool/software:

Hello,

can you please advise regarding a customer claim about some of the delivered parts with  P/N: UCC27282DRCR ?

The customer purchased a reel with 3,000pcs, but saw 7pcs failing electrically.

The customer told us:

------
Our quality control department has found the following parts to be defective.
Reason for complaint: Customer reports electrical failure of components,
IC4 / UCC27282DRCR is responsible VSON10 TI
The X-ray examination showed that the soldering points of the ICs are all OK and do not show any deviations or abnormalities.

-------

Can yo uplease advise? Would a failure analysis help to find the cause of the failures?

Thank you very much

Best regards

Adnan

  • Hi Adnan,

Thanks for reaching out. I have a couple questions to gain more information regarding the failure:

    1. What is the customer's application/system?

    2. What are their system characteristics (VBUS, VDD, fsw, and load)?

    3. Did the customer test all 3ku?

    4. Did the failure occur at start-up, steady-state, or shut-down? Are there more operation modes?

A failure analysis would definitely help, but let's first work with the system info on-hand.

    Thanks,
    Rubas
