Hi team,

We are planning to use the TPS2373 in our design with a non-isolated DC-DC converter to provide 5V/3A. The system is designed to operate over a 10GBase-T Ethernet connection, utilizing Power over Ethernet (PoE). Could you please suggest a suitable buck converter for this application?

Hi Pream,

TPS2378 should be a lower cost solution than TPS2373 and are enough for < 25.5W power.

PMP11257 is a TPS2378 based buck reference design but with 12V output.

You can use LM70840 to build your 5V buck.

Hi Diang Xing,

Thanks for the prompt response.

I have the following queries regarding TPS2378:

Can TPS2378 used for 10GBase-T application and what is the difference between IEEE 802.3at and IEEE 802.3at standards, is not related to connection date rate.
Do you recommend any TI's EVK as PSE device for this application (with 10Gbase-T support).
Does Isolated power solution is required for IEEE standard compliance.

Thanks for your reply

1. PoE chips won't influence the data speed. Power and data will be split / merged by data transformer, and PoE chips are only power related.

2. TPS23861 could be considered as the PSE. But PoE is not related to the data speed so I am not sure if it can support 10Gbase-T. It uses JK0-0177NL as terminals which is 10/100/1000 Base-T

3. Yes isolation is required in general

Hi Pream,

You could consider TPS23731 which is PD with PWM integrated (one chip solution).

TPS23731EVM-095 (https://www.ti.com/tool/TPS23731EVM-095) is 5V/5A output isolated flyback.

TPS2378 needs an external PWM (two chip solution). You can add a LM51561 as flyback CTL.
