LMR51635: LMR51625 versus 51635

Part Number: LMR51635
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR51625,

Tool/software:

I'm wondering what the differences between the two parts are, other than:

  • The 51635 can handle Iout of 3.5A, the 51625 only 2.5A.
  • The 51635 is actually a bit more efficient, but at zero load it has the same Iq.
  • The 51625 is about 5-10% cheaper (depending on quantity and distributor).
  • The 51635 can use slightly smaller inductors.
  • Other than that, pinout and specs are the same. And I bet that the board layout I've come up for the 51635 would work just as well for the 51625.

So for me as an amateur hobbyist, who probably uses a dozen of these chips per year, I don't see a reason to stock anything other than the 51635; the small cost saving amounts to about $1 over the year. Did I miss something important here?

  • Hi Ralph,

You've understood the differences, and yes the board layout should work just as well for the LMR51625.

Just wanted to add on to the understanding that LMR51635 can use slightly smaller inductors because it has higher peak current limit.

    Thanks,

    Richard
