TLC5946: Do I need to have both GSCLK and BLANK

Expert 1015 points
Part Number: TLC5946

Tool/software:

We have used this part in the past, but I want to program it with a microcontroller instead of an FPGA.

1) Do I need to drive the GSCLK input, or can I just use this in DC mode?
2) If I do need to drive the GSCLK input, do I need to toggle BLANK after 4096 counts or will the part restart the output drive after the counter completes? Can the blank just be set low and have part will cycle the outputs?

Thanks,
Warren

  • Hi Warren,

Suchen: Sure, you need an external GSCLK to drive this device.

    2) If I do need to drive the GSCLK input, do I need to toggle BLANK after 4096 counts or will the part restart the output drive after the counter completes? Can the blank just be set low and have part will cycle the outputs?

Suchen: You need to toggle BLANK after a display cycle to start a new display cycle.
