When evaluating BQ25505 on BQ25570 EVM, can we simply replace the BQ25570 chip with a BQ25505 device? Do we need to change any jumpers or other components?

Thanks,

  • Hi Jack,

Does you customer want to use the MUX feature?   If not, the buck components can be removed and pins 10, 11  and 12 can repurposed likely with a wire.   If so, it will be difficult to modify the BQ25570EVM with the BQ25505.  I'm going to contact you directly via email.

  • Hi Jeff,

I'm also interesting in modifying the BQ25570EVM for the BQ25505 with the MUX feature. Could you please help me with this as well?

How long will the BQ25505 continue to be supported by TI? This IC seems perfect for our application but I'm not sure if I should start a new design with it if the BQ25505EVM is no longer available.

  • Hi Joseph,

There are no plans to stop selling BQ25505.  The EVM stopped shipping due to cost of certifying it for shipping to the EU.  If you do not need the MUX, the boost charger is the same as the BQ25570's boost charger.  If you do need the MUX, it is not practical to modify the BQ25570 to fit BQ25505.

Replacing the BQ25570EVM with BQ25505 requires the following passive component and trace modifications:

    1. Remove inductor L2, dual FET Q2, resistor R9

    2. Move R8 to R10

    3. Connect R6 to top pad of R9 and R7 to bottom pad of R9, each at 45 degree angle to they can be soldered together at a mid point

    4. Connect that mid point to a R6/R7 node

    Regards,

    Jeff
