UCD3138128A: Flash Erase Time

Part Number: UCD3138128A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD3138, FUSION-PRODUCTION-GUI

Tool/software:

Team,

We found one issue when doing the FW program to the device in customer factory. The flow chart is like below:

  1. In customer AT test step 1, program the FW to the device.
  2. Check work good in AT step 1, power down
  3. Move to customer AT test step 2, power on
  4. Erase the flash by software
  5. Program the FW to the device
  6. We found that the FW didn't be programmed to the device successfully.

One quick question, is there timing delay requirement between step4 and 5? Thanks!

Qiang

  • Hello Qiang,

How much time currently do you have between step 4 and step 5? Also, why do you program FW onto the UCD3138128A device twice (in step 1 and step 5)? I do not know of any timing requirements between erasing the program flash and downloading program flash. I will look into if we have any requirements.

  • Hello Jonathan,

We use the SDK (Fusion Firmware Download.exe) in factory, so we don't the time between step 4 and step 5. Because board level need to download DCFW to confirm the board is ok, and then, the board need to be be assembled into the machine, the DCFW and other software will be download into the machine. So, there are two times download. I think the difference the two download is that there is no DCFW in UCD3138 for the first download DCFW, there is DCFW in UCD3138 for the second download DCFW. So, my question is what should we pay attention to in the SDK between the first download and the second download DCFW? I guess the first DCFW needs to be completely erased before the second DCFW is downloaded, if it is not completely erased, the second download DCFW may not be successful, is that right?

  • Hello Jonathan,

If the UCD3138 is disconnected from the USB interface adapter during download DCFW, is there any command line we can check? Or computer is disconnected from the USB interface adapter before DCFW is downloaded, is there any command line we can check? Because in factory, unlike in a lab, they don't have the Fusion Firmware GUI environment to check.

    Many thanks!

  • Hello Cai,

What does the term "DCFW" mean?

Since you cannot use Fusion Digital Power Studio, I would look into the following software for production

  • Hello Jonathan,

'' DCFW'' means the firmware of downloading into UCD3138, maybe we just have different names.

Yes, in factory the tools of downloading firmware is Fusion Firmware Download.exe from TI support. And many of our products use this SDK to download firmware. So I understand that this SDK is not the cause of the issue.

The current product differs from other previous products in that firmware needs to be downloaded twice (the board level and the whole machine level).

So the question is, what is the difference between the two download for UCD3138?

In addition, not all UCD3138 can reproduce this issue. At present, 100 pieces have been produced, and there are 5 pieces with the issue. And then, after repeated operation several times, the firmware can also be successfully downloaded.

  • Hello Songlin,

It is difficult to tell what is the difference between step the two downloads without knowing more of your system. Since the Fusion Studio SDK is not the issue, then maybe there is a hardware issue in your A/T setup that is causing firmware flash failure. Since the issue is random (5/100 units) and can be solved by repeating the operation several times, I suspect there may be some loose hardware connection that causes occasional hardware fail on step 4-5.

I have created a graphic of your customer's A/T testing below to help visualize the process:

  • Hello Jonathan,

    Thanks for your support!

It's correct for your graphic. We were already checking if there is hardware connection issue.
