BQ25756: Looking for compatible cell balancer

Part Number: BQ25756
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76972

Tool/software:

Hi all,

I completed a design of a Li-ion charger, able to work with 14s batteries, based on the BQ25756 charger IC. It works fine but now, I would like to evolve my design: I would like to embed a cell balancer on this PCB (as the batteries that I use don't embeds any BMS).

By now, my preferred candidate is the BQ76972 IC, but it seems to earn too much functionalities for me, so i would like to get recommendations from a TI expert.

My requirements are:

-> Compatible with batteries up to 14S. Cells number must be configurable (as we also work with 12S batteries).
-> Able to work fully autonomous, without any host control.
-> Compatible to work along BQ25756.
-> My only purpose is to get the cells balanced during charge and when it is terminated.

Thanks in advance.

Roberto.

  • Hello Roberto,

From what you have shared, the BQ76972 seems to be the best fit for what you're looking for.

    • It's compatible with 14S and 12S
    • It can be OTP'd with a MCU to not need any host control
    • It should be compatible to work along the BQ25756
    • You can disable the other functionalities if they are undesired.

    Best Regards,
    Alexis
