BQ25306: Overheating IC when fast charging

Part Number: BQ25306

Tool/software:

Hello support forum !

I recently updated a schematic by switching the old charging circuit with one based on the BQ25306. I followed both the layout guide and typical application schematic for 2s standalone charger without power path.

While testing the device I observe that when in fast charging, the IC gets up to 130 °C (checked via thermal imaging) which seems way too high to me. attached are the thermal imaging and schematic. Charge current is set at 2A, input voltage is 12V via a bench power supply, when in fast charge, it draws around 1,9 amps.

I couldn't find anything in the datsheet about the need for a heat sink. Are these temperatures normal ? If not, any idea as to why it's happenning ?

Have a nice day
