TPS92401: max number of ICs adressable in parallel

Part Number: TPS92401
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92402

Tool/software:

I have read TPS92401 datasheet and I would like to ask you the maximum number of IC that can be used in a single group in the star configuration.

  • Hi Hanno,

Our expert will give you feedback later.

  • Hi Hanno

Can you please share what's your end equipment and the application needs?

    Thank you

  • Hi Gui,

the application is composed of 76 Ti TPS92402 which communicate via SPI with a micro (master). The question is about the maximum number of devices which can be put in a single group i (with i from 1 to n, specified by his CSi) in the 4-wire star configuration (reference: Figure 6-11 pg. 23 of TPS92401 datasheet).
In the Sub_Head_Word command there are 8 bits for the setting of the chip_index [7:0], which means 256 available indexes. How does this 256 indexes are related with the number of devices and number of groups?

    Thank you

  • Hi Alessandro,

Our expert will give you feedback later.

  • Hi Alessandro

There is no specific number limit of n for a single group, this would come to a common question that how many SPI salves can be connected to a single SPI bus. And this is related to many factors like the frequency of the spi clock, like how much data you need to transfer from each device and how often.

For our experience and rough estimation, 10 device in one group should be ok.

Are you using 76×tps92401 on one board? Have you selected the front CCR? Can you please share more information of your application? We would like to help if anything we can.

You can send email to bella-he@ti.com if the information if you don't want to information to be disclosed on the forum.

    Thanks and best regards.
