BQ24640EVM: How to tune gate resistors of external FETs

Part Number: BQ24640EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24640,

Tool/software:

Hello,

My customer plans to use BQ24640 and is evaluating BQ24640EVM.
They would like to put gate resisters for the external FET Q4 and Q5 somehow.
How those gate resistors should be tuned, any recommendations? Are there any restricted resistor range (min/max)?

Best regards,

K.Hirano

  • Hello K.Hirano,

Thanks for using the e2e forum.
Gate resistors on highside/lowside MOSFETS can be increased to control swiching speed which may increase losses but can stabilize voltage overshoots and reduce noise and ringing

Common resistor values are in the range of 1 Ohm to 10 Ohm.
If you increase the resistance even more, the switching losses may increase too much, so higher values are rather uncommon.

    Best Regards,

    Christian.
