PMLKBUCKBOOSTEVM: Buck-Boost Converter Recommendation (3V to 18V Input) with 5V, 3.3V Buck and 12V Boost Outputs

Part Number: PMLKBUCKBOOSTEVM

Tool/software:

Hello TI Team,

I’m looking for a buck-boost converter that can support a wide input voltage range of 3V to 18V and provide the following outputs:

  • 5V (buck)

  • 3.3V (buck)

  • 12V (boost)

The input voltage will vary depending on system conditions, and can go as low as 3V or as high as 18V.

Requirements:

  • Wide input voltage support (3V to 18V)

  • Boost output to 12V

  • Regulated 5V and 3.3V buck outputs

  • Preferably a single-chip solution, but multiple ICs can be considered if needed

Do you have any recommended TI parts or reference designs that can meet this requirement?

Thank you!

  • Hello Dhruvit,

Please have a look at LM5127.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte

  • Hi Brigitte,

I’ve reviewed the LM5127 datasheet, and while it meets all my requirements, it exceeds my budget due to its high-performance buck-boost capabilities. It requires powerful inductors and supporting components, which significantly increase the overall BOM cost.

My maximum total current requirement is around 3A to 4A, distributed as follows:

    • 2A for 3.3V

    • 0.5A for 12V

    • 1.5A for 5V

Based on this, could you please suggest a more budget-friendly alternative? Additionally, if you have a reference or link that helps compare a few options, that would be really helpful.

Thank you in advance for your time and effort.

    Best regards,
    Dhruvit

  • Hi Dhruvit,

Then you may consider 1 boost converter + 2 buck converter.

    Best Regards,

    Feng
